At just 29 years old, Sharmadean Reid already has a lifetime of achievements under her fluoro belt. She’s styled for Arena Homme + and i-D, consulted for Marc Jacobs, graduated from Central St Martins with a first in Fashion Communication and grown her company WAH Nails from a small nail salon in Dalston, East London into an unstoppable global empire. Oh, and she’s the mother of three-year-old Roman.
“I’m not sure where I get my work ethic from,” she says, on her way to check on the WAH Nails outpost at Topshop. “I guess I just always aspired to have the freedom to choose and I believe money can help with freedom. I also think it’s a simple equation: work hard; earn money… Now, I do it all for my baby boy.”
What’s been Reid’s proudest moment so far? “Seeing my WAH Nails book come back from the printers was a pretty special moment, but then I saw a typo and freaked… I’ll never be satisfied!”
MY PIONEER HERO: Martha Stewart
“It’s common knowledge I’m obsessed with Martha Stewart. She’s so sassy! But I love so many amazing women – too many to name. I’m lucky to know many amazing women like all my former bosses.”
